Abstract:

Diet plays a significant role in individuals' lives and is crucial in the evaluation of impressions. This study, grounded in the "Big Two" theoretical framework of social psychology, investigates how others' food choices influence individual impression evaluations through the lens of food gender stereotypes. The research findings reveal that: (1) People hold a stereotype associating masculine foods with high competence and low warmth, whereas they associate feminine foods with low competence and high warmth; (2) The gender of the person and the food both influence people's impression evaluations, exhibiting a certain compensatory effect. These findings shed light on the impact of food gender stereotypes on impression evaluations and theoretically investigate the connection between individuals' food choices and the formation of gendered impressions, offering practical insights for understanding and modifying gendered impressions.

Key words: food gender stereotype, impression evaluation, warmth, competence
