Abstract: What is the relationship between solitude experience and interpersonal competence: One waned and the other waxed? Or both could coexist? Three hundred and twenty-six college students were administered with solitude questionnaire and interpersonal competence questionnaire in the present study. Latent profile analysis revealed that solitude experience and interpersonal competence were divided into low, medium, high groups, respectively. Crosstabs analysis revealed that solitude experience and interpersonal competence interdepended with each other. Partial correlation analysis revealed that only positive solitude experience correlated with all domains of interpersonal competence significantly and positively. This study revealed that solitude experience and interpersonal competence both could coexist.
