This meta-analysis was conducted to explore the strength and moderators of the relationship between gratitude and self-esteem. By searching Chinese and English databases, a total of 30 independent effect sizes (30 studies, 15145 participants) met the inclusion criteria of the meta-analysis. On the basis of the characteristics of studies, the random-effects model was selected. Results indicated a significant positive correlation (r = 0.37) between gratitude and self-esteem. In addition, the moderation effect analysis shows that the association between gratitude and self-esteem was moderated by subject's type and measurement tools of gratitude, but not by age and cultural background. Future research could strengthen the exploration of regulatory variables, test other possible adjustment variables, and focus on the adjustment effect of individual differences.

Key words: gratitude, self-esteem; meta-analysis
