Abstract:

To explore the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and adolescents’ depression, 4639 adolescents were measured and analyzed with adverse childhood experiences scale, adolescent daily hassles scale, core self-evaluation scale, depression self-rating scale for children and student family socioeconomic status scale. The results indicated that: (1) Compared with students from ordinary high school, those from secondary vocational school scored significantly higher on adverse childhood experiences; (2) Ordinary junior school students scored significantly lower than other grades on depression, and the vocational high school students scored significantly higher than ordinary high school students on depression; (3) Adverse childhood experiences were significantly positively correlated with adolescents’ depression. (4) Daily hassles played a partial mediating role between adverse childhood experiences and adolescents’ depression. (5) The impact of adverse childhood experiences on adolescents' daily hassles is moderated by core self-evaluation. The results provide new ideas for the prevention and intervention of adolescents’ depression.

Key words: adverse childhood experiences, daily hassles, core self-evaluation, adolescent, depression
