Mediating Effect of Depression on Relationship Between Expressive Suppression and Social Adaptation of Community Correction Offenders

Abstract: To explore the relationship between depression, emotion regulation and social adaption community correction offenders. A sample of 269 subjects in Fujian Province were investigated with Person At Reeducation-center Social Adaption Scale, Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and Patient Health Questionnaire 9. The results indicated that: (1) The social adaptation of community correction workers aged 25-40 was higher than that of those aged over 40, social adaptation scores were higher in female than in male community correction offenders, and the social adaptation scores of community correction offenders with average economy were higher than that of community correction offenders with poor economy. There was no significant difference in social adaptation among the married, unmarried and divorced community correction personnel. (2) Expressive suppression is significantly negatively correlated with Depression, expressive suppression is significantly positively social adaptation, and depression is significantly negatively social adaptation. (3) Depression play a partial mediating role between the expressive suppression and social adaptation of community correction offenders.
