A Study on Impact of Appropriateness of Experienced Temperature on Time Perception
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2016, 4 (9):  513-520.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2016.09.001

According to embodied cognitive theory of knowledge representation, thought and conceptual processing are based on the sensation and body activities. Previous experiments also proved that perception of temperature had important effect on time perception. The current study used temporal bisection task to investigate whether temperature appropriateness affects time perception. The aim of Experiment 1 and Experiment 2 was to investigate the effect of hot and cold temperature and temperature appropriateness separately. The result of Experiment 1 showed that there was no difference between the effect of words of hot and cold temperature on judgment portion of long time; however the result of Experiment 2 found that there was more possibility to judge the inappropriate temperature words to be long time than that of appropriate temperature words. The study concluded that embodied temperature could affect time interval judgment. More importantly, appropriateness of embodied temperature is very important in time perception. Experience of inappropriate temperature will elicit negative emotion, and improve the level of physiological arousal, which leads to overestimation of time duration.

Effects of Self Control on the Gender Stereotype
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2016, 4 (9):  521-529.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2016.09.002

Selfcontrol is an important factor of the stereotype suppression. However, fewer studies have examined the relation of selfcontrol and gender stereotype suppression seriously. This study investigated the effect of selfcontrol on the gender stereotype suppression. In the first experiment, fortysix participants completed the Stroop task and IAT, while the participants state of selfcontrol was controlled by ego depletion in the Stroop task. Results showed that compared to those participants without ego depletion, participants with ego depletion scored higher on gender stereotype. In the second experiment, thirtysix participants finished the selfcontrol scale. And the score of gender stereotype suppression was calculated from the pre and posttest in the SCIAT. Results showed that compared to those participants with high trait selfcontrol, participants with low trait selfcontrol have less gender stereotype change. Therefore, selfcontrol significantly influenced the gender stereotype suppression, regardless of the state or trait selfcontrol.

Characteristics and Impacts of Textisms through Mobile Social Media by Hearingimpaired Adolescents
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2016, 4 (9):  530-537.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2016.09.003

Presently the mobile social media has merged into the daily life of the youth generation. When it comes to hearingimpaired adolescents, the textisms through mobile phones may bring about the distinguished characteristics, comparing to the paperversioned. The textisms through mobile phones by hearingimpaired adolescents, who are normally using the signal language for communication, may be of differentiated features from the textisms by those of normal hearing abilities. The present paper, based on case study of the textisms from hearingimpaired adolescents, classified and categorized the concrete features of the textisms and texting behaviors by hearingimpaired adolescents, and analyzed the impact of the textisms posed on acquisition and communication of the hearingimpaired adolescents, and lastly, put forward proposals on further potential research on textisms from hearingimpaired adolescents, which we may expect beneficial findings from this field on studying texting behaviors and textisms from hearingimpaired adolescents.

Situational Judgment Tests in Personnel Assessment: A Research Agenda
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2016, 4 (9):  538-548.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2016.09.004

Situational judgment tests (SJTs) has been a very important measure and topic in personnel assessment. Recently, a serials of SJTs studies have been conducted around theoretical explanation, psychometrics attributes, concept development, practical application and so on. The article aims at conducting a theoretical and methodological review of SJTs research findings recent years. It presented SJTs foundational theories and distinguished two different research approaches (methodand conceptoriented paradigm). The effectiveness of SJTs in term of reliability, construct validity, criterionrelated validity incremental validity and contextual effects is discussed in the paper as well. Three key issues of the SJTs implementation such as presentation format, faking, and subgroup differences are also stated in this paper. Future research should pay much more attention on three topics: developing new SJTs format, advocating conceptoriented paradigm, and incorporating other assessment tools in personnel selection.

The relation of individuals and groups is an important subject of social psychology studies, and social identity theory is one of the most influential theory in this area. Since Tajfel and Turner proposed social identity theory in the late 1970s, the theory constantly progressed and played a valuable role up to now in social psychology studies. But the related research methods or research status should be further improved and supplemented. This article reviewed the related theories, methods and research status to retrospect the development of social identity researches.

Wording Effect in Scales: Types, Mechanisms and Remedies
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2016, 4 (9):  561-573.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2016.09.006
    Abstract ( 844 )   PDF(pc) (806KB) ( 2237 )   Save
Wording effect is a specific method effect caused by phrasing in a scale. According to the literature reviewed, it can be divided into three types including positivenegative item wording effect, the focus of question wording effect and scale options wording effect. This article discusses some mental mechanisms from the perspectives of semantic comprehension, cognitive processes. Two kinds of techniques can be used to remedy wording effect: a) procedural remedies such as changing item phrasing and scale type; b) statistical remedies based on CorrelatedTraits CorrelatedMethods (CTCM), CorrelatedTraits CorrelatedUniqueness (CTCU) and bifactor model. Further studies can shed light on factors that influence wording effect, and identify if this effect would affect those popular scales across different cultures. Particular views in the area of linguistic might help to illustrate the nature of wording effect.
