Abstract: Episodic foresight refers to the ability to mentally project the self into the future and preexperience an event.Previous studies mainly focused on the development and mechanism of episodic foresight. In recent years, researchers have gradually turned to the discussion of its function.Theepisodic specificity induction (ESI)—brief training to recollect the details of a past event,increased the amount of internaldetails in episodic future thinking.This article introduces the ESI research paradigm, the impacts of ESI on episodic foresight and other related cognitive abilities, and mechanisms underlying the ESI.In addition,the future directionswere put forward.
