Facial Expression Processing Specificity of People with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Abstract: A large number of studies have confirmed that people with autism spectrum disorder(ASD) are special at facial expression processing. This article reviews the latest research about the specificity of facial expression processing in ASD patients, and believes that the specificity of facial expression processing in ASD patients may be affected by factors such as the intensity of facial expressions, the ways of presenting facial expressions, and the individual differences of ASD patients, and it is explained by the face fixation pattern and its physiological mechanism of ASD patients. Future research can further explore the internal mechanism of facial expression processing in ASD patients from the perspective of the development process of social information processing ability of ASD patients and the individual differences within ASD patients.
