Abstract:

Exploring the characteristics of spatial instructions used in human-robot interaction (HRI) and the relationship between the reference frame preference and the individual traits, such as spatial ability, empathy and social skills of subjects. One hundred and two undergraduates were randomly divided into different interaction condition groups (human/robot) to complete a series of desktop spatial tasks, and the spatial instructions of the two groups were analyzed and compared in terms of the spatial description types, description types of visual features, etc. The results demonstrate that: (1) The preference of spatial description types was related to specific spatial tasks, but the subjects generally prefer to use the reference frame; (2) The judgment of robot’s mind from subject in HRI makes the two groups of spatial instructions have a certain "collaborator effect"; (3) The spatial ability is related to the use of the reference frames, while the empathy is related to perspective taking.
