Concept, Measuring Tools, Characteristics, and Mechanism of Ageism

Abstract: As a kind of discrimination and prejudice against the elderly, the negative influence of ageism is gradually concerned by the researchers. Based on organizing and summarizing the relevant ageism studies at home and abroad, this paper introduced the concept of ageism, measuring tools, and analyzed the characteristics of ageism, summed up the mechanism for the formation of ageism. Not only should future research continue to explore the formation and development of ageism in the whole process of life, but also focus on the integration of measuring tools, the affecting factors of ageism, and how to reduce ageism.
