The Relationship between Attitudes toward Agingin Older Adults and Cognitive Aging

Abstract: This study applied Attitudes to Aging Questionnaire(AAQ) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA) to evaluate the older adults attitudes toward aging and their cognition. Sixtytwo older adults participated. The results showed that: (1) There are gender and age differences in the older adults attitudes toward aging. And The older adults attitudes aging also connected with education, marital status, living pattern and subjective health condition. As for psychosocial loss, it has gender difference, and relates to marital status and living pattern. As for physical change, age exerts a significant influence. As for psychological gain, it has gender difference, and associated with education level and the number of children they have. (2) Age had a negative effect on cognition aging, while education had a positive effect. In addition, cognition aging is also related to subjective health condition. (3) Cognition aging is significantly related to the older adults attitudes toward aging. Keeping good interpersonal relationship, doing exercise and keeping learning can contribute to slowing the process of cognition aging.
