Abstract: To examine the effect of mindfulness training on self-objectification, the study used a follow-up design with a pretest and posttest on both experimental and control group. During 7 consecutive days, 15 minutes daily, the mindfulness group received brief mindfulness meditation training which included breath monitoring and acceptance, the monitor group received breath training which only included breath monitoring but not acceptance, while the control group received no intervention. Results: In mindfulness group, the level of self-objectification was significantly lower in both posttest and half a month follow-up than that in pretest. There was no significant difference in the level of selfobjectification between posttest and half a month follow-up, nor between half a year follow-up and pretest. The level of half a year follow-up was significantly higher than that of posttest and half a month follow-up. And there were no difference among the four tests in the control group or the monitor group. In conclusion, brief mindfulness meditation training (Monitor+Accept) could significantly reduce college students' level of self-objectification, and it still had a sustained effect after half a month, but the effect was no longer significant after half a year; the monitoring training (Monitor Only) could not significantly reduce college students' level of self-objectification.

Key words: mindfulness, selfobjectification, brief mindfulness meditation
