Interoception on Eating Disorders: From Theoretical Framework to Possibilities of Application

Abstract:

Eating disorders are characterized by persistent disturbances in one’s eating and related behaviors, accompanied by a series of serious disorders, which will cause great harm to patients’ physical and mental health. Early studies tended to focus more on the impact of social and psychological factors. Until recent years, with the development of studies on interoception, the influence of interoception on eating disorders have attracted more and more attention. Starting from the dimensions of interoception, this paper reviewed researches of interoceptive deficits in typical types and common associated phenomena of eating disorders. Further researches should pay more attention on how investigation of interoception on eating disorders could change and improve the intervention of eating disorders.
