The study explored the structure of selftranscendence meaning of life (SMLS) compiled by Li Hong, and evaluated the reliability and validity of it. The results showed that exploratory factor analysis extracted two common factors“got the meaning of the failure” and “detached from success or failure”, and it matched the two theoretical foundations of Taoist philosophy and Buddhist philosophy according to SMLS scale; confirmatory factor analysis also showed that the scale of the twodimensional structure model is superior to the unidimensional structure model. Scale scores and the score of each factor from twodimensional structure model had a significantly positive correlation with the index of mental health and good criterionrelated validity; the combination reliability and internal consistency reliability of the scale met psychometric requirements. Finally, based on the correlation coefficient between the two factors of SMLS and mental health, the relationship between the Buddhist philosophy, Taoism philosophy, Confucianism and mental health was analyzed in theory. Therefore, the study reveals that SMLS is a twodimensional structure with good reliability and validity, which can be used as a tool to measure selftranscendence meaning of life among middle school students and college students.
