Theory of mind (ToM) is crucial for everyday interactions, cooperation, and cultural learning. Therefore, ToM is a key social cognitive skill for the college students. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether this social skill can be improved through dance appreciation. In Study 1, we compared 73 dancer majors and 81 common college students about their scores on the Read your Mind in the Eyes Test. The dancer majors got higher scores than the comparison group. In Study 2, 143 college students were randomly assigned into three groups, which were danceappreciation group, practicewatching group or control group. Then, they all completed the Yoni tests to assess the cognitive and affective theory of mind. After a little while dance appreciation, the affective ToM as well as cognitive ToM were significantly improved. This suggests that we could promote the skill of ToM through dance appreciation.
