The Implicit and Explicit Selfevaluation of Disadvantaged Group in the Context of Intergroup Threat
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2017, 5 (5):  258-264.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2017.05.001

Using implicit and explicit methods, this study investigated the selfevaluation of disadvantaged group under intergroup threat. The results from implicit measure indicated that when disadvantaged people perceived the threat from the high economic status, their selfevaluation was reduced significantly, but they would still put up equivalent energy and preparation to the competition. The results from explicit measure indicated that when perceive the intergroup threat, people showed higher selfevaluation than the control group, and the achievement motive played an intermediary role. Two studies had shown that intergroup threat had significant effects on selfevaluation, and these effects had showed different forms in the implicit and explicit levels.

The Relationship between Socioeconomic Status and Aggressive Behavior among College Students: The Mediating Effect of Sense of Control
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2017, 5 (5):  265-273.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2017.05.002

This study aimed to explore the relationships among socioeconomic status, sense of control and aggressive behavior of college students. 320 college students were surveyed using the MacArthur scale of subjective socioeconomic status, the questionnaire of objective socioeconomic status, the sense of control scale and the aggression questionnaire. Results indicated that the subjective socioeconomic status and objective socioeconomic status were both positively related to sense of control. Subjective socioeconomic status was negatively related to aggressive behavior, whereas objective socioeconomic status had no such significant relationship with aggressive behavior; Sense of control was negatively related to aggressive behavior. In addition, sense of control had a mediating effect in the relationship between subjective socioeconomic status and aggressive behavior, and a suppressing effect in the relationship between objective socioeconomic status and aggressive behavior.

Intergroup Threat and Aggression:The Mediating Effect of Selfcontrol
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2017, 5 (5):  274-280.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2017.05.003

Two experiments were conducted to explore the relationship between intergroup threat and aggression, and the role of selfcontrol. We explored the relationship among the three variables under the situation of realistic threat in study 1, the results suggested that the realistic threat was positively correlated with aggression, and negatively correlated with selfcontrol; Selfcontrol was negatively correlated with aggression. Further, selfcontrol partially mediated the relationship between realistic threat and aggression. Study 2 was conducted in the situation of symbolic threat, the results showed that symbolic threat had no significant relationship with aggression or selfcontrol; Selfcontrol was still negatively correlated with aggression. However, selfcontrol did not mediate the relationship between symbolic threat and aggression.

In order to explore the effect of course education on college students lay theory of ethnicity, this study used the experimental group and control group repeated measurement experiment design to investigate 164 college students. The results demonstrated: (1)After learning the curriculum, college students significantly improved social constructionist theory of ethnicity, without changing essentialist theory of ethnicity; (2)The college students who did not learn the curriculum did not significantly change both the essentialist theory and the social constructionist theory; (3)The research also showed that the essentialist theory based on the social culture difference and the social culture constructionist theory based on the social culture were college students lay theory of ethnicity.

A Psychological Perspective on the Study of Modesty
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2017, 5 (5):  287-298.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2017.05.005

In psychological perspective, modesty has been studied as either a personality trait or a social behavior and can be indexed with either explicit or implicit measures. Existing researches suggest that modesty plays an important role in improving psychological wellbeing, enhancing interpersonal relationships and benefiting organizational management. The manifestation of modesty is influenced by both external factors(e. g., culture and circumstances) and internal factors(e. g., gender and beliefs). Although modesty has recently been a veritable “hot” topic in empirical and theoretical research, its importance has rarely raised attention of Chinese psychologists. Thus, by comprehensively reviewing the definitions, measurements, functions, influential factors and development of modesty, we hope this review would deepen peoples understanding of modesty, and provide insights for studying modesty in Chinese psychology.

The Relationship between Income Inequality and Trust: Research Advances at the Macro and Micro Levels
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2017, 5 (5):  299-307.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2017.05.006
    Abstract ( 299 )   PDF(pc) (686KB) ( 1146 )   Save
Over the years, increasing research investigates the relationship between income inequality and trust at macro and micro levels. Prior studies at the macro level often adopt a correlation method, in which income inequality is represented by Gini coefficient or Theil index, and trust is measured in general social surveys, finding that income inequality negatively predicts trust. Other studies at the micro level routinely adopt an experimental method where participants incomes or endowments are manipulated and their trusting behaviors are observed in the subsequent economic game, demonstrating that income inequality decreases trust. Future research at the macro level can explore how the income inequality may predict different kinds of trust and the trust of different groups. Likewise, future research at the micro level should promote the ecological validity of the experiments and explore the psychological mechanisms through which income equality decreases trust.

As one of the important research issues, consumption behavior has been paid attention by psychologists for a long time. However, the current research mainly concentrates on rational consumption behavior in physical store, showing negative attitude towards irrational consumption. This paper embarked from the psychological perspective, reviewed the research on irrational consumption and Internet consumption over the past three decades, and explored the performance of online irrational consumption, involving online compulsive consumption, online impulsive consumption and online emotional consumption. At the end, practical significance were summarized. Suggestions for future research were also included.
