Abstract: The researchers are attaching more importance to the sibling relationships with the launching of “one family two children policy”. The sibling relationship quality has more effect on the adolescent adjustment. The links between sibling relationships and college adjustment and loneliness and potential moderators of these associations were examined using the sample of 215 freshmen. The results showed that sibling intimacy was higher for samesex dyads, while the age difference of sibling was smaller, the more conflict. The sibling intimacy was more important than sibling conflict in predicting the adjustment and loneliness, while the sex, sibling gender composition, age difference and birth order moderated the relationship of each other significantly. The mechanism and longitudinal effect of sibling relationship should be investigated further.
Key words: sibling relationship; adjustment; loneliness; college freshmen
