Development of Problematic Mobile Social Media Usage Assessment Questionnaire for Adolescents

Abstract: In order to evaluate the problematic mobile social media usage of adolescents, a questionnaire was developed to assess problematic mobile social media usage of adolescents. According to the standardized process of questionnaire preparation, about 574 and 768 adolescents were selected as research objects, and the obtained data were analyzed by item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and reliability test. The results showed that the questionnaire included 20 questions, and the exploratory factor analysis found that the questionnaire included five factors: viscosity increase, physiological damage, omission anxiety, cognitive failure and guilt. The cumulative variance contribution rate was 6332%. The questionnaire has good structural validity (χ2/df=316, RMSEA=007, CFI=097, IFI=097). The alpha reliability of the total questionnaire is 091, the alpha reliability of five factors is between 070 and 091, the split-half reliability of the total questionnaire is 082, the split-half reliability of five factors is between 072 and 091, the retest reliability of the total questionnaire is 087, and the retest reliability of five factors is between 075 and 092. The questionnaire has good reliability and validity, and can be used to evaluate the problematic mobile social media usage of adolescents.
