The Relationship between Freshmen's Parents, Peer Attachment and Their Psychological Adaptability: The Mediating Role of Hope and Social Support

Abstract: In order to examine the effects of parental and peer attachment on psychological adaptability among freshmen, the present study used Adolescent Attachment Inventory (IPPA), Adolescent Psychological Adaptation Scale (APAS), Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS), and Hope Scale (TTHS) to investigate 1290 freshmen in Chongqing. The results indicated that, (1)there is a positive correlations between parental, peer attachment and hope, perceived social support, and psychological adaptability; (2) hope and perceived social support plays a mediating role between parents attachment and psychological adaptability among freshmen; (3) freshmens peer attachment can not only directly predict the psychological adaptability, but also indirectly predict psychological adaptability through the mediation of hope and perceived social support. Therefore, improving hope and perceived social support is of great importance to the intervention programs to promote psychological adaptability among freshmen.
