The Relationships Between Family Functioning and Bullying, and Victimization among Adolescents: The Mediating Role of Parentchild Attachment

Abstract: To probe into the relationship between family function and bullying and victimization of adolescents, and the mediating effect of parentchild attachment between them, 452 junior high school adolescents were assessed with the Family Cohesion and Adaptability of ScaleChinese Version, Inventory of Parent Attachment, the Olweus Bully and Victimization Questionnaire. The results showed that: (1) Family functioning was positively correlated with parentchild attachment, and negatively correlated with bullying and victimization respectively; parentchild attachment was negatively correlated with bullying and victimization respectively. (2) Family function could influence indirectly bullying and victimization through parentchild attachment, which showed that parentchild attachment mediated the effect of Family functioning on adolescents bullying, and victimization.
