Abstract:
This paper reviews the research on corruption conducted using the experimental paradigm in recent years, while also comparing the strengths and limitations of different experimental paradigms, hoping to flourish the corruption research in experimental paradigm in China. The experimental paradigm on corruption can overcome the unobservability of corruption behavior, manipulate variables precisely, and examine the causal relationship, which has superiority in corruption research. The experimental paradigms on corruption can be classified into three types: scene simulation paradigm, game paradigm and field experimental paradigm. Each paradigm has its own characteristic. By using these paradigms, research examined the effect of related factors (e.g., culture, experience) on corruption behaviors and examined the effectiveness of anti-corruption strategy (e.g., high salary, supervision mechanisms). In the future, scholars should try more experimental methods to evaluate the efficiency of multi-anti-corruption policies, to develop measuring tools of individuals’ intention of corruption, to analyze the dynamic developing process of corruption, or to explore the mechanism of group corruption.
