Abstract: In order to investigate the roles of emotional parentification(providing emotional support to parents) and instrumental parentification(taking on parental responsibilities) between interparental conflict and adolescents problem behaviors, 360 junior school students were recruited to participate in the survey. The results of a multiple mediation model showed that the instrumental parentification could mediate the relationship between interparental conflict and four kinds of problem behaviors, while the mediating role of emotional parentification did not exist. These findings demonstrated that interparental conflict negatively associated with the instrumental parentification, which led to more problem behaviors, whereas positively associated with the emotional parentification, which showed no significant relations with problem behaviors.

Key words: interparental conflict, adolescents, problem behaviors, instrumental parentification, emotional parentification
