The Effect of Selfies on College Student’ Friendship Quality: A Moderated Mediation Model

Abstract: The present study investigated the relationship between selfies and friendship quality, as well as its internal mechanism – the mediating role of perceived positive feedback and the moderating role of extraversion. 490 college students complete a battery of questionnaires, including the Selfies questionnaire, the Positive Feedback Scale, Friendship Quality scale, and Extraversion. The results indicated that: (1) selfies positively predicted college students’ friendship quality; (2) extraversion moderated the second path of mediation effect - perceived positive feedback mediating the relationship between selfies and college students’ friendship quality. Specifically, perceived positive feedback only positively predicted friendship quality among individuals with low extraversion, not in people with high extraversion.
