The Impact of Perceived Economic Mobility on Individual Intertemporal Choice：The Moderating Role of Scarcity

Abstract:

The study employed a combination of questionnaires and experiments to explore the effect of perceived economic mobility on intertemporal choice through four studies, as well as the moderating role of scarcity.The results showed that: (1) Perceived economic mobility significantly predicts individuals' long-term preferences in intertemporal choice; and (2) Scarcity was found to moderate the positive relationship between perceived economic mobility and intertemporal choice. These findings contribute to deepen the understanding of how perceived economic mobility affects individuals' psychology and behavior, provide a new perspective for empirical research on intertemporal choice, and offer important insights for individuals in making reasonable economic plans for the future.
