Cumulative Family Risk and Self-injury Behavior with Junior Middle School Students:The Role of Experiential Avoidance and Cognitive Flexibility

Abstract:

Based on the cumulative family risk model and experiential avoidance model, this study explored the relationship between cumulative family risk and self-injury behavior among junior middle school students, focusing on the mediating role of experiential avoidance and the moderating role of cognitive ?exibility 684 junior middle school students were investigated with the Cumulative Family Risk Scale, Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II, Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List and Cognitive Flexibility Inventory. The results indicated that: (1) Cumulative family risk influenced self-injury behavior in junior middle students through the mediation of experiential avoidance; (2) Cognitive flexibility moderated the first half path and the latter half path of the mediation model. These results show the mechanism of cumulative family risk a?ecting self-injury behavior in junior middle school students, o?ering practical insights for preventing self-injury behavior.
