This paper aims to describe the general semantic psychology in Jin Yongs martial arts fiction texts through intelligent text analysis. Using factor analysis, we extracted the big two fundamental dimensions of social cognition (communion and agency); the negative anger, positive emotion and anxiety death of emotional content; the past, present and future three-part framework of time, and the individualism and collectivism. Among these psychological dimensions, there are some structural and modelling features, such as group friendliness, negative time view and empowerment. Cluster analysis based on psychological dimension also obtains meaningful categories of this swordsman series novels.

Writer's criticism is a literary criticism that combines writer's characteristics, personal experience and historical background to analyze writer's psychology. However, most previous researches are subjective literary criticism or discourse analysis, which rely on the analysis and evaluation of researchers. Therefore, the study proposes to use ecological identification method to directly predict the personality scores of characters in Jin Yong's novels for comparative analysis. Jin Yong's novels are classified into chivalrous stage, nonchivalrous stage and antichivalrous stage. The results demonstrate that there are significant differences in the conscientiousness and openness at different stages of novels. Nonchivalrous stage has the lowest conscientiousness while antichivalrous stage has the highest openness. At the same time, it shows no significant differences in other personality dimensions. The study reveals the changes of Jin Yong's literary style and literary intention at different stages. What's more, it verifies the view put forward by Jin scholars that Jin Yong's novels consistently embody an optimistic and cheerful chivalrous spirit.

Dominance hierarchy is the core feature of social animals, and in novels, which serve as the presentation and reflection of social reality, fictional characters are also portrayed as in different social classes and the elite (upper class) greatly influence the public in human societies. In previous literature, however, there were very few quantitative studies on the characters personality and social class, and now the literature intelligent analysis model provides a reliable method. Based on artificialintelligence method, the represent research predicted the Big-Five personality scores of 116 characters in Louise Cha novels, and compared them among those from different social classes. The results showed that the upper class revealed a higher level of Agreeableness and a lower level of Neuroticism. In addition, men in the upper class (vs. lower class) revealed higher Openness, while women's Openness in the lower class (vs. upper class) was comparable. The current findings, such as the upper class Agreeableness, are consistent with the traditional ethics and observations, and also demonstrate the social ideal in literature works. The present research provides a new method for the psychology of social class, and sheds light on the artificialintelligent field in identifying novel characters personality.

Due to the industrial revolution, British came into across rapid economy development and society change in early 20th century, which can be considered as a microcosm of western countries. It is thus very critical to identify the psychological characteristics of British population, which may help us further understand the psychosocial characteristics of western society during that period. In this paper, we propose to predict big-five personality and life satisfaction of the characters in Maugham's novels by using machine learning models. We found that there was no significant difference between male and female in personality and life satisfaction. The novel characters were identified with high openness and low extraversion, while their life satisfaction were a bit higher than middle. The psychological characteristics of British population might be because of the adaptation of economic development, social change and family role in early 20th century.

In recent years, with the development of computer natural language processing and machine learning technology, the use of network behavior to predict users psychological characteristics has gradually become a focus of interdisciplinary research. The analysis of literary characters by the intelligent analysis system based on ecological recognition has been proved to be effective, but there are still some deficiencies. In this paper, the idea of transfer learning is introduced into the intelligent analysis system of literature. Taking the literary characters described by the English writer William Somerset Maugham as an example, the prediction effect is found to be improved to a certain extent, thus proving the effectiveness of transfer learning in the psychological analysis model of literary characters.

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between college students childhood psychological abuse, neglect, coping styles, and aggressive behavior; this study assessed 431 undergraduates using the Child Psychological Abuse and Neglect Scale, Coping Style Scale, and Aggression Scale. The results showed that the positive rate of psychological abuse scale for college students was 4361%, and the positive rate of the childhood neglect variable was 5545%. The score of college students was significantly higher than average, while the negative coping score was lower than average. Pearson correlation analysis showed that childhood abuse and childhood neglect factors were positively related to the various dimensions of aggressive behavior and negative coping, and they were negatively related to positive coping styles. There is a significantly positive relationship between negative coping style and attacking dimensions, and it was seen that a positive relationship existed only with verbal attacks, and other dimensions were not related to positive coping styles. Additionally, intermediary tests found that negative coping played a mediating role in childhood trauma and aggressive behavior. Therefore, prevention of and intervention for college students aggressive behavior should target early psychological abuse and neglect as well as coping style, especially negative coping style.

    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2019, 7 (10):  620-628.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2019.10.007
    Abstract ( 322 )   PDF(pc) (674KB) ( 714 )   Save
In order to explore the potential mediating role of selfesteem between childhood abuse and later coping styles, 324 college students were investigated by using Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, SelfEsteem Scale and Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire. The results showed that emotion neglect was the most frequent among all types of abuse during childhood. While the relationship between child abuse and negative coping was not statistically significant, each type of child abuse was negatively correlated with positive coping styles in adulthood, and emotional neglect could even negatively predict positive coping styles. Furthermore, selfesteem was found to play a partial mediating role. This indicated that emotional neglect not only had a direct impact on the positive coping styles of college students, but also indirectly affected the positive coping styles through the level of selfesteem.

    Abstract ( 313 )   PDF(pc) (727KB) ( 524 )   Save
Based on both literature review and the survey results from 102 open-ended questionnaires, we developed an initial questionnaire with thirty-six items for measuring the work volition of college students. A total of 650 valid questionnaires were collected from a comprehensive university in Guangzhou. By conducting item analysis and exploratory factor analysis, 9 items were retained in the final questionnaire. We found that college students' work volition has three dimensions, namely career preparation volition, social opinion volition, and occupational environment volition. Then another 448 valid questionnaires were collected from multiple comprehensive universities in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiangtan, Beijing, Tianjin, and Quanzhou. The results of confirmatory factor analysis supported the three-factor structure of college students' work volition. Analyses also showed that both work volition and its three dimensions were not scored high by college students in China. Moreover, the level of occupational environment volition for female students was lower than male students, while the level of career preparation volition for those students who grew up in low-income families was lower than their counterparts who came from those families with higher social economic status. The scale we developed in this study has good reliability and validity. And it can be used as a measurement instrument for college students' work volition.
