The Influence of Insecure Attachment on Academic Procrastination: The Mediating Role of Perfectionism and Rumination

Abstract:

The aim of the present study was to improve the understanding of the mechanism of insecure attachment influencing academic procrastination and provide empirical support for the intervention of academic procrastination among college students. This study explored the relationship between insecure attachment and academic procrastination, and the chain mediating mechanism of perfectionism and rumination. A sample of 522 college students was recruited to complete Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory, Chinese Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, Ruminative Responses Scale, and the Academic Procrastination Scale. The results indicated that: Insecure attachment had a positive predictive effect on academic procrastination, which was mainly realized by the single mediating effect of rumination and the chain mediating effect of perfectionism-rumination. This study explained the relationship between insecure attachment and academic procrastination and its internal mechanism, enriching the research on perfectionism and rumination.
