Increasing Empathy in Chinese College Student: A Crosstemporal Metaanalysis
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2017, 5 (10):  578-585.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2017.10.001

As a social clue, empathy has attracted much attention of researchers, leading to a vast number of studies on its contributing factors. However, most of the existing literature is focused on microlevel factors relevant to the subjects and objects of empathy, with very few studies exploring the influence of environment that change over time on empathy. To address the issue, the present research conducted a cross-temporal metaanalysis, covering 18 studies published from 2009-2015 that measured Chinese college students empathy with Interpersonal Reactivity Index, Chinese version (IRI-C). Results showed that:(a) Time could explain 19% of the variance in college students empathy; (b) Chinese college students empathy level had been rising in the past 7 years, as the score increased by 8.3 from 2009 to 2015, yielding an effect size d of 0. 94; (c) correlation analysis showed that college students empathy was positively related to the level of national economic development (r=0.42, p<0. 05), and had a marginal negative association with the rate of juvenile crimes (r=-0. 42, p=0. 057). Finally, the current article discussed in depth the reason why college students empathy increased over years, plus the influence of changing social environments.

Association between Use of Violent Media and Empathy in Children and Adolescents: A MetaAnalysis
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2017, 5 (10):  586-595.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2017.10.002

The current research explored the relationship between use of violent media and empathy from middle childhood to emerging adulthood via meta-analysis. Through a literature search, 24 articles and 37 datasets involving 20081 participants were selected. Results showed that use of violent media was negatively associated with empathy in general as well as its emotional and cognitive components. Plus, there was a stronger association with emotional empathy than with cognitive empathy. Besides, participants age and use of smart media were found to moderate the association with empathy.

Resolving the Mystery of Anger from an Evolutionary Perspective: The Recalibrational Theory
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2017, 5 (10):  596-604.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2017.10.003
    Abstract ( 323 )   PDF(pc) (634KB) ( 707 )   Save
The recalibrational theory of anger is a theoretical model used to explain human anger from an evolutionary perspective. It hypothesizes that anger is the expression of a neurocomputational system deriving from evolution. According to this theory, whether anger would be triggered depends on the welfare tradeoff ratio (WTR) one holds towards us. When the WTR one holds towards us is lower than expected, our anger system would be triggered. Once anger is triggered, the detection system will send “anger signals” to the receivers as negotiative tools to bargain for a higher WTR. Moreover, the triggering stimuli of anger includes the costs others inflict on us and the “insult” we receive. Recent empirical studies have provided partial support for the theory. However, how one mentally sets the equilibrium point of WTR that others should hold on oneself is still unclear. Future studies would benefit from infusing social factors as well as trait empathy into the model, and studying the processes of anger evolution by computer simulations.

A Comparative Study of the Green Consciousness in Uyghur and Han Cultures
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2017, 5 (10):  605-610.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2017.10.004
    Abstract ( 267 )   PDF(pc) (587KB) ( 422 )   Save
Green consciousness is supposed to be a holistic worldview based in many ancient and stillcurrent principles and wisdoms, holistic worldview, and one that offers alternative conceptions of human and nonhuman subjectivity, of humans relationships with each other and with nonhuman nature. This research used qualitative methods to compare the green consciousness in Uyghur and Han ethnic groups. The research involved two studies, one archival and one word association. In the archival study, we compared the proportions of words relevant to green, environmental protection, and sustainable development in dictionariesof Uyghur and Chinese proverbs. In the word association study, by using 2 (priming language: Uyghur vs. Chinese)×2(word type: number vs. green/environmental protection/sustainable development)between subject design, we compared the proportions of words related to green consciousness, environmental protection, and sustainable developmentin the total number of words expressed by the 230 UyghurChinese bilingual participants after being exposed to different priming languages. We found that the Uyghur ethnic group has accumulated deeper cultural depositswith respect to the green consciousness than the Han ethnic group. We also found that, in Uyghur communities, the Uyghur language is more capable of rousing peoples cultural consciousness as related to green, environmental protection, and sustainable development.

The Native Language Sense Affects the Second (Chinese) Language Sense: Evidence from Uygur Bilingual College Students
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2017, 5 (10):  611-618.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2017.10.005
    Abstract ( 256 )   PDF(pc) (591KB) ( 492 )   Save
An investigation had been made among 100 Uygur undergraduates in Tianjin by using the questionnaires of language senses of Uygur and Chinese. The results showed that there had a significantly median or low level correlation between the sense of Uygur language and Chinese language. And it was found that students who studied in mainland high school had higher Chinese language sense than those native students. There was no gender difference in the components and abilities of Chinese language sense. Whats more, male Uygur college students had a significantly high level correlation among the three components of the Chinese language sense, but the female not. As a conclusion, the sense of native language had significantl influence on the one of Chinese language to some degree. So different gender Uygur students should adopt different Chinese language sense cultivation strategies.

The Comparison of Referential Communication Learning between Two Sides under Different Communication Situations
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2017, 5 (10):  619-627.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2017.10.006
    Abstract ( 218 )   PDF(pc) (613KB) ( 508 )   Save
The study used referential communication paradigm to compare the learning characteristics of both sides of the referential communication under different shared conditions. The results showed that: Under the condition of low score group, the score in the shared language + object + expression condition was significantly higher than the other conditions. The shared language condition was significantly higher than the shared language + object condition. There was no significant difference between high and low groups in the shared language + object + expression condition. The number of relative dimension in the shared language condition was significantly more than the other conditions, the shared language + object + expressions condition was significantly more than the shared language + object condition. The number of irrelevant dimension in the shared language + object condition was significantly more than the other conditions. The high score group was significantly less than the low group. The results suggested that: The score difference among the shared conditions only appeared in the low group. Shared expression promoted learning effect, and shared object reduced learning effect. The levels of cognitive and behavioral coordination between both sides were higher in the shared language + object + expression condition. The level of the directivity of selective attention was the highest in the shared language condition, and the level of the concentration of selective attention was the lowest in the shared language + object condition.

Research Paradigm and Decision Quality Evaluation for Group Decision Making
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2017, 5 (10):  628-637.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2017.10.007
    Abstract ( 243 )   PDF(pc) (655KB) ( 1475 )   Save
Compared with individual decision making, group decision making plays an important role in modern production and life. In this paper, we firstly reviewed the research of group decision making from two aspects: one is the research paradigm of group decision making, and the other is the evaluation method of decision quality. Then, we put forward the processoutcome model to evaluate the group decision process, which can make up for the disadvantage of the existing researches. We tried to evaluate the group decision making in four dimensions, the information processing, interpersonal interaction, objective result and subjective feeling of the task. Finally, we prospected the future evaluation system based on the model.
