The Native Language Sense Affects the Second (Chinese) Language Sense: Evidence from Uygur Bilingual College Students

Abstract: An investigation had been made among 100 Uygur undergraduates in Tianjin by using the questionnaires of language senses of Uygur and Chinese. The results showed that there had a significantly median or low level correlation between the sense of Uygur language and Chinese language. And it was found that students who studied in mainland high school had higher Chinese language sense than those native students. There was no gender difference in the components and abilities of Chinese language sense. Whats more, male Uygur college students had a significantly high level correlation among the three components of the Chinese language sense, but the female not. As a conclusion, the sense of native language had significantl influence on the one of Chinese language to some degree. So different gender Uygur students should adopt different Chinese language sense cultivation strategies.
