Abstract: Based on the situated focus theory of power, two studies were conducted to explore the influence of power on cognitive flexibility. Study 1, a questionnaire was used to measure the trait power of the subjects and cognitive flexibility, and found that there was a moderate positive correlation between the trait power and cognitive flexibility. Study 2 combined lexical priming paradigm and task switching paradigm to explore the role of state power in balancing cognitive flexibility and stability. It was found that the main effect of switching condition was significant, and the switching cost under preservation condition was significantly lower than that under distraction condition. Individuals with a high sense of power had a higher level of cognitive flexibility, while those with a low sense of power were not flexible enough to pursue their goals and have higher cognitive stability.

Key words: power, cognitive flexibility, implicit priming, task switching
