A Preliminary Study on Scale Development for the Measurement of NIMBY Effects of the Residents Surrounding Nuclear Power Project

Abstract: The study developed a scale to measure NIMBY(NotInMyBackYard)syndrome of the residents surrounding nuclear power projects. The scale items were determined by literature research and indepth interviews. Using survey data of the residents surrounding QS Nuclear Power Plant, and method of structural equation model, exploratory factor analysis and confirm factor analysis were conducted. The results showed that there were four factors, including risk perception, benefit perception, public acceptance and NIMBY behavior intention. The Scale was confirmed with good internal consistency and construct validity. Thus, it can be used to evaluate NIMBY syndrome for the residents surrounding nuclear power project.
