Abstract: Based on the theory and practice of Imagery Communication Psychology, this study conducted a psychometric evaluation on the Weapon Imagery Projective Test (WIPT) and explored its application in interpersonal conflict intervention. Study 1 investigated the reliability and validity of the test. The results showed that the WIPT had a good item discrimination, the retest reliability of two months interval was 060, the correlation with immature defense mechanism was 018, the correlation with mature defense mechanism was -018, and the correlations with AQ-CV (verbal aggression, angry, and hostility) were 015~021. Study 2 employed a repeated measurements design and conducted group intervention on weapon imageries of 30 participants over a 1-month period. A control group without any treatment was also recruited for comparison. The results showed that, for the intervention group, participants degree of physical response and relationship impairment caused by interpersonal conflict was reduced, and participants adverse physical symptoms and negative emotions were also reduced. At the same time, there was a decline in WIPT, immature defense mechanisms, and negative copings for the intervention group, while these changes could not be observed on the control group. The findings suggest that WIPT could be used in measurement of interpersonal conflict coping. Shortrange intervention on the weapon imagery could help to improve the interpersonal conflict coping, and to promote individuals physical and mental health.
