The Influence of Parental Psychological Control on Problem Behavior in Children with Intellectual Disabilities:The Role of Self–control

Abstract:

In order to explore the relationship between parental psychological control, self–control and problem behavior of children with intellectual disabilities, 72 children with intellectual disabilities were investigated by experiment and their parents and teachers were investigated by questionnaire. The results showed that: (1) There is a significant positive correlation between parental psychological control and problem behavior of children with intellectual disabilities, so does the relation between self–control and problem behavior. (2) Parental psychological control can significantly predict conduct problems, hyperactivity–inattention and the total scores of problem behavior in children with intellectual disabilities. (3) Self–control plays a moderating role in the relationship between parental psychological control and problem behavior of children with intellectual disabilities. For these children, greater self–control abilities can buffer the influence of parental psychological control on their problem behavior.
