Abstract:

This study targeted 2,369 middle school students to revise the Online Prosocial Behavior Scale (OPBS) originally developed by Erreygers et al. Based on the translation and back-translation of the original OPBS, the study sequentially conducted item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, criterion-related validity analysis, and reliability analysis for the two subscales of the Chinese version of the Online Prosocial Behavior Scale (implementation and reception of online prosocial behavior). The results indicated that the Cronbach's α coefficients for the two subscales were 0.92 and 0.94, respectively, with retest reliabilities of 0.91 and 0.94, respectively. The correlation coefficients between the two subscales and offline prosocial behavior, as well as the frequency of digital multimedia usage, ranged between 0.24 and 0.82 (p < 0.01). The Chinese version of the OPBS demonstrates good reliability and validity, making it suitable for assessing the online prosocial behavior of Chinese adolescents.

Key words: adolescents, online prosocial behavior, reliability, validity
