Abstract: Angry faces were rated as being more dominant and faces with lowered and assembled eyebrows (v-shaped eyebrows) were perceived as being angry. Thus, whether faces with lowered and assembled eyebrows would be rated as being more dominant? The present study aims to answer this question. In the experiment, participants were presented a series of faces with their eyebrows in the typical positions or lowered and assembled and asked to rate the dominance and angry expression of the face. The results showed that faces with lowered and assembled eyebrows were rated as being angrier and more dominant. The effect of eyebrow position on dominance ratings was fully mediated by the angry ratings. The findings indicated that merely manipulating eyebrow positions could lead to a perception of being angry, which modulated peoples understanding of others personality, i. e. dominance.
