Modern social psychology has been focusing on employing elegant research designs to draw minor conclusions limited to finite scopes. It is beautiful but feeble, losing its theoretical explanation and practical influence on major social issues. Thus, all social psychologists as an academic community utter little sound in public policymaking and everyday life of social members. This is the real crisis that hinders the further development of social psychology in China. We suggest that Chinese social psychologists should endeavor to develop a policy-oriented discipline that fully participating in the modernization process of national governance. This discipline should devote itself to satisfy the strategic demands of the whole nation and nudge the improvement of social governance capability so that social psychology in China could gain substantial boosts. This branch of social psychology aims to provide better psychological insights into the social phenomenon and actively seeks its influence on the public policy process to construct beautiful and practical social psychology with Chinese features.

Aiming to investigate factors influence financial literacy in college students, 353 college students were surveyed with financial knowledge questionnaire, rational decision style scale, intertemporal decision-making task, and materialistic values scale. Results suggested that the financial literacy level was on rising among students from freshmen to juniors, while seniors showed less score than juniors. Financial values in males were higher than those in females. College students from one-child families performed lower in financial decision-making tasks. Then, items analysis and exploratory factors analysis was conducted in the first sample (n=487), and confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis and validity analysis were performed in the second sample (n=353) to form the final scale. 29 items were selected and seven factors were extracted by exploratory factor analysis, including vastness, connectedness, tininess, self-diminishment, compliance, a need for accommodation and physical sensations. The cumulative variance contribution rate was 6104%. Confirmatory factorial analysis confirmed that the seven-dimensional model fitted well. The results of reliability analysis, content validity, construct validity and criterion validity showed the Scale of Awe of College Students reached the psychometric standard and can be a valid tool to measure ones experience of awe.

Satisfying the Needs of Social Reality to Foster the Development of Psychological Sciences:Summary of the Ninth Psychology and the Development of China Forum
    JIANG He
    Psychology: Techniques and Application. 2020, 8 (4):  252-256.  DOI: 10.16842/j.cnki.issn2095-5588.2020.04.009
    Abstract ( 210 )   PDF(pc) (618KB) ( 478 )   Save
The ninth Psychology and the Development of China Forum was successfully held at Nankai University in December 2019. This forum launched a diversified discussion under the theme of “indigenous practice and the construction of the system of public psychological services from a global perspective.” Experts from different universities in mainland China and Taiwan reached three major consensuses on the future direction of Chinese psychology and the system of public psychological services. First, Chinese psychologists should broaden the horizons of psychological sciences, innovate their existing paradigm, and reform their methodology to prompt more powerful responses to social reality. Second, the direction of the construction of the system of public psychological services should pay more attention to the macro approach of cultivation of social mentality, rather than the development of the mental health service system. Third, traditional Chinese culture resources can provide rich theoretical and practical supports to the development of indigenous psychology, and psychologists should utilize them more creatively and efficiently to establish the autonomy of Chinese psychology.
