What is Pain Belief

Abstract: Pain is a complicated perception influenced by many psychosocial factors. Pain is not only a feeling, but also an emotion. Pain belief originated from the Gate Control Theory (GCT) and from then on psychology became a formal topic in pain research guided the clinical practice. Pain belief is different from the conceptions such as knowledge, perception and appraisal. For now, there isnt a consistent definition to which factor is pain belief and which is not. The purpose of this article is to define pain belief by classifying its facets to make it clear and provide a beneficial standard for the following research and clinical practice.
