Effects of Child Abuse on Aggressive Behavior of High School Students:The Mediating Roles of Hostile Interpretation Bias and Negative Coping Style

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence and psychological mechanism of child abuse on senior high school students aggressive behavior. Participants were 411 senior high school students recruited randomly or in cluster from Shangqiu,Henan province. All of them completed four questionnaires: CTQ-SF, SCSQ , IQ and BPAQ. The results were as follows: (1) The level of childhood maltreatment was positively correlated with the hostile interpretation bias, negative coping and aggressive behavior of senior high school students;(2) Hostile interpretation bias was positively correlated with negative coping and aggressive behavior. (3) Hostile interpretation bias and negative coping played a chain mediating role in the relationship between child abuse and senior high school students aggressive behavior. Therefore, child abuse can not only directly affect the aggressive behavior of senior high school students, but also indirectly influence the aggressive behavior through hostile interpretation bias and negative coping.
