Missing Data Techniques in Social Network Analysis

Abstract: Social network analysis is the quantitative analysis of the social relations. Missing data are common in social network analysis; improper handling of missing data may increase measurement errors, reduce statistical power, and even distort the results. In our study, we will first elaborate on the causes and underlying missingness mechanism of missing data in social network analysis. Secondly, based on literature reviews of the principles of four missing data handling techniques, we will compare the merits and drawbacks of the four techniques in the practical application. In psychological research field, the selection of a proper missing data handling technique should take into consideration the premise of both missingness and missingness mechanism.
