Abstract: In order to investigate the relationship among aggression, theory of mind and the ability of understanding idioms, 421 adult female prisoners were enrolled and were instructed to finish questionnaires. The questionnaires included Buss-Perry Aggression Scale, “Reading the Mind in the Eye”  Test, and the questionnaire of understanding idioms. The results showed that: (1) Compared with those who were at the low level of education, the female prisoners with higher level of educational had a better ability of understanding idioms and theory of mind; Young women prisoners are better at theory of mind; Violent and drugrelated female prisoners had higher levels of aggression. (2) The ability of understanding idioms positively predicted theory of mind but negatively related with aggression. There was no significant correlation between theory of mind and aggression. (3) There was no direct effect between theory of mind and aggression. However, the ability of understanding idioms played an indirect effect between theory of mind and aggression. This study suggested that theory of mind and the ability of understanding figurative language played a copredictive role in adult female prisoners aggression.
