Abstract: Presenteeism refers to the situation where employees present during work hours but cannot work functionally due to illness or other reasons. It therefore would bring huge loss to organizations. To find solutions to this problem and to suggest ways of improving work performance, this study measured the impact of perceived meaning of life on presenteesim using procreation as a moderating effect. 432 employees of a stateowned enterprise were recruited in this study. The results suggested that: (1) meaning of life is negatively correlated to presenteesim and (2) procreation plays a moderating effect in this correlation as the correlation is stronger to employees without procreation but weaker to employees with procreation.

Key words: presenteeism, meaning of life, procreation, moderating effect
