The Association Between Family Financial Management Education and Conspicuous Consumption in College Students

Abstract:

To explore the relationship between family financial education and conspicuous consumption in college students, with focus on the mediating role of materialism and the moderating role of self-control, 750 college students by handy sampling method were surveyed. The results showed that: (1) Family financial education negatively predicted conspicuous consumption of college students; (2) Materialism played a partial mediating role between family financial education and conspicuous consumption; (3) Self-control moderated the second half of the path, that is, the relationship between materialism and college students' conspicuous consumption was moderated by self-control. These results are helpful to reduce college students' conspicuous consumption behavior.
