Development and Validation of Weibo Usage Preferences in Adults

Abstract: The paper was to develop the Weibo Usage Preferences of Adults Questionnaire. Literature analysis and interviews as well as the expert group discussion were used to collected the items, and a formal questionnaire was developed by item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. There are totally 17 items in this questionnaire with four factors, including social interaction preference, acquiring information preference, emotional adjustment preference and entertainment preference. Confirmatory factor analysis indicates that the questionnaire has good structural validity. The Cronbach α of the questionnaire and its four factors are between 0. 79 and 0. 91. The splitpart reliabilities are from 0. 77 to 0. 85. The testretest reliability coefficients with 3 weeks apart are between 0. 59 and 0. 78, and the correlations of the questionnaire with criterion range from 0. 23 to 0. 39. The first main preference of Weibo usage is acquiring information, followed by social interaction, emotional adjustment and entertainment. The questionnaire has good validity and reliability and can be used as an effective and reliable tool for assessing adult Weibo usage preferences.
