Abstract:

To explore the relationship between social support and subjective well-being in junior board students in rural, the mediating effect of loneliness on this association, and the effect of group psychological counseling intervention for loneliness, two studies were conducted. In study one, measures of Social Support Scale, Subjective Well-being Scale, and Loneliness Scale were administrated to 990 junior board students in rural. Results showed that loneliness partially mediated the association between social support and subjective well-being. In study two, the effect of group psychological counseling intervention for loneliness was examined. 24 junior students with higher levels of loneliness were selected with 12 students being randomly selected as the experimental group, and the others being selected as the control group. Results showed that the loneliness after group psychological counseling intervention was lower than that before intervention in experimental group, and the subjective well-being after group psychological counseling intervention was higher than that before intervention. While for the control group, there were no significant differences in the loneliness and subjective well-being between the pre-test and post-test. These findings can benefit the understanding of how to improve subjective well-being in junior board students in rural.
