The Effect of Natural Connectedness on Subjective WellBeing of College Students:the Mediating Role of Mindfulness

Abstract: To explore the mediating role of mindfulness in the relationship between connectedness to nature and subjective wellbeing, the inclusion of nature in the self (INS), Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire(FFMQ) and Index of WellBeing(IWB) were administered to 231 College students in Beijing. The study showed that (1)Pearson correlation analysis showed that natural connectedness was positively correlated to subjective wellbeing (r=0.196, p<0.01) and to mindfulness(r=0.238, p<0.001), and that there was significant positive correlation between mindfulness and subjective wellbeing (r=0.345, p<0.001). (2)Hierarchical linear modeling showed significant full mediation of mindfulness in association between natural connectedness and subjective wellbeing of college students. Mindfulness fully mediated the positive link between natural connectedness and subjective wellbeing of college students.
