Selfcontrol: Definition, Theory and Expectation

Abstract: Selfcontrol is a selfregulatory behavior, an ability to inhibit impulse responses, and a personality trait. Under the impact of selfcontrol, individuals behave in a goaloriented way. The competition between cold/hot and control/impulsive systems influences the behavioral consequences of selfcontrol. Its mental process consists of two stages: conflict identification and conflict resolution, and mistakes at any stage could lead to the failure of selfcontrol. Selfregulatory resources and motivation play important roles in the process.
