Dark Triad and Adolescents' Interpersonal Trust: The Mediating Role of Ostracism

Abstract: In order to explore the relationship between Dark Triad and adolescents interpersonal trust, and the mediating role of ostracism between them, we investigated 390 adolescents by using Dirty Dozen, Ostracism Experience Scale and interpersonal trust questionnaire. Results indicated that: (1) Machiavellianism and psychopathy had direct negative prediction on interpersonal trust. (2) Being excluded experience (one dimension of ostracism) played a partially mediating role between psychopathy and interpersonal trust; being ignored experience (another dimension of ostracism) played a fully mediating role between narcissism and interpersonal trust. (3) boys scores of machiavellianism, psychopathy trait and experience of being ignored were significantly higher than girls scores, however, gender doesnt play moderating roles in the mediator models.
