Development of the College Students Emotional Infidelity Questionnaire

Abstract: To develop the College Students Emotional Infidelity Questionnaire(CSEIQ) and test its validity and reliability, this study was based on open questionnaire, semistructured interview and experts opinions, developing 35 original items. 396 college students were used for item analysis and exploratory factor analysis;654 college students were used for confirmatory factor analysis and the reliability test; The criterion validity was tested with Quality of Relationship Index(QRI) and Basic Psychological Needs Scales(BPNS); Totally 55 college students were retested for retest reliability with 4 weeks interval. The formal version of CSEIQ included 11 items in three dimensions, which were privacy escaping, affection alienation and attention transference and the three dimensions explained 81.78% of the variances. Confirmatory factor analysis showed the model had good fit. The total questionnaire and three dimensions had good internal reliability with Cronbach's α coefficients from 0.84 to 0.94 and retest reliability coefficients from 0.77 to 0.86. In addition, the scale had good external validity and convergent validity. The College Students Emotional Infidelity Questionnaire(CSEIQ) has acceptable reliability and validity, meets the needs of psychometrics and can be used to measure the college students emotional infidelity.
