Mediating Effect of Online Social Support on Relationship Between Self Esteem and Online Deviant Behavior of College Students

Abstract: To explore the relationship among self esteem, online social support and online deviant behavior in college students. Totally 350 college students were surveyed with the Online Deviant Behavior Questionnaire, the Self Esteem Scale and the Online Social Support Questionnaire. The scores of ODBQ were negatively correlated with SES scores, and positively correlated with OSSQ scores; The scores of SES were positively correlated with OSSQ scores. Self esteem had a significantly direct effect on online deviant behavior. Self esteem had a significantly indirect effect on online deviant behavior through online social support. Online social support played a partial mediating role between online deviant behavior and self esteem in college students.
