Development and Validation of Parents Evaluation on Preschoolers Social Skills

Abstract: The paper was to develop the parents evaluation scale on preschoolers social skills.Based on a twodimensional structure theory about the social skills, the items were collected through interviews and literatures, and a formal questionnaire was developed by item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. There are totally 32 items in the parents evaluation scale on preschoolers social skills. The selfcontrol subscale consists of four factors, namely, possessiveness, perseverance, consciousness, and delay of gratification. The initiative subscale also consists of four factors, including priority, spontaneity, expressivity, and helping. Confirmatory factor analysis shows that the questionnaire has good structural validity. Internal consistency reliabilities are between 0.85 and 0.93. The testretest reliability coefficients with 4 weeks apart range from 0.70 to 0.77, and the correlation of the questionnaire with criterion is between 0.31 and 0.54. The scale has good validity and reliability and can be used as an effective and reliable tool for assessing preschoolers social skills.
